Overview

Motor Rock is an isometric racing game developed and published by Yard Team for PC.

Gameplay

In Motor Rock players take control of an intergalactic racer trying to be the best. The game takes place in an isometric view while players race against five AI controlled drivers across multiple planets.

In between races players can purchase new vehicles, upgrades, weapons, and colors.

Similarities to Rock N' Roll Racing

The developers have openly acknowledged that the game is based, without express permission, on 's , and in fact used the title "Rock'n'Roll Racing 3D" for most of its development. Aside from the general stylistic and design similarities to RRR, specific characters and assets from Blizzard's game are closely imitated; for example, racers called , , Rip, and Shred appear, with their portraits closely resembling the original racers, and the soundtrack contains recognizable approximations of songs licensed for RRR, like Deep Purple's "Highway Star" and Black Sabbath's "Paranoid". At launch, the game even included a "Classic" announcer option that used actual voice samples from the Genesis game's announcer.

Removal from Steam

On December 23, 2013, about a week after its release on as a paid product, the game was removed from the Steam store.

on February 16, 2014 that Motor Rock would not be returning to and would instead be available as a free download on their website. The developer cited the inability to come to an agreement with as the reason for the game's removal. In an announcement on the game's Steam Community forum, a Yard Team developer claimed that was withholding $60,000 in revenue from sales of the Steam version, and refusing to refund purchasers.
