Walls are the blocks or tiles (professional term) that make the backgrounds which protects your house from invasions and allows NPCs to get inside. These are the house walls, but there are also natural walls that the character had nothing to do with, they’re just there by design. There are a total of 69 walls in Terraria, so really, the variety is plentiful.
The purpose of the wall, as mentioned before, is to protect the space from enemy monsters. They become parts of the background and can’t be broken easily. You need a hammer-like equipment or an exploding item to damage and destroy it. Walls can be crafted (the easiest and most popular way) can be bought from NPC’s or by harvesting natural walls. One of the material pieces turns in to 4 pieces of wall tiles and the 4 tiles can be pieced together to the same item once again.
