1. Overwatch
Overwatch is a team-based online multiplayer first person shooter developed by Blizzard and released in 2016. In Overwatch you choose one of 26 heroes. All of them have different abilities and unique styles of play. All of the heroes are assigned to one of the four roles: Offense, Defense, Tank and Support. There is ranked mode for ones who like serious play and all kinds of arcade modes for more relaxed gameplay. Blizzard keep adding maps, modes and heroes all the time to please their player base of over 30 million players.
2. Half-Life 2
Developed by Valve corporation and released in 2004, Half-Life 2 is one of the most iconic and influential first person shooting video games ever. The game had incredible physics, animation, sound, AI and graphics for its time. The story was rated amazingly well too, there you play as the protagonist Gordon Freeman and fight versus diverse enemies, therefore need to use different tactics to complete levels.
3. DOOM 3
The game is developed by id software and published by Activision. Released in 2004. Doom 3 is a futuristic survival horror first person shooter set in 2145 on Mars. The player plays as anonymous space marine who fights vs demons that invaded after failed biological and teleportation experiments that opened gateway to Hell.
4. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
CS:GO is multiplayer first person shooter developed by Valve Corporation and Hidden Path Entertainment and released in 2014. It is a sequel to a successful Counter-Strike series, just like in previous ones you play in one of the two teams Counter-Terrorists or Terrorists. Both sides need to either eliminate the other side or complete objectives. Terrorists have either to plant the bomb or to prevent Counter-Terrorists from rescuing the hostages, while Counter-Terrorists have either to prevent from bomb to get planted or rescue hostages.
5. Battlefield 3
Released in 2011, Battlefield 3 is arguably the most successful of it’s series. It is a direct sequel to Battlefield 2 and eleventh game in the series. In the campaign players take of different military roles, such as U.S Marine or M1A2 Abrams tank operator. In the campaign you play as Sergeant Blackburn and Dimitri Mayakovsky. Action takes in various locations from Iran to New York City. In Multiplayer mode you play as one of four different roles: Assault, Support, Engineer and Recon. There are different game modes for the multilayer, such as Conquest, Rush, Squad Deathmatch, Squad Rush and Team Deathmatch(for the first time since Battlefield 1942).
6. Team Fortress 2
Developed and published by Valve Corporation TF2 is multiplayer first person shooter game that was released in 2007 and won multiple game of the year awards, including best multiplayer game of the year. In this cartoonish visualized game you play as one of the 9 characters(Pyro, Engineer, Spy, Heavy, Sniper, Scout, Soldier, Demoman and Medic) and complete the objectives against opposing team for the victory. Game modes include Capture the Flag, Control Point, King of the Hill, Payload, Man vs Machine and Attack/Defend.
7. Doom
Doom is a classic science fiction horror-themed first-person shooter that everyone has heard about. It is defining game of the genre. Doom was released in 1993, developed by id Software and published by GT Interactive. It is one of the most influential video games ever. In Doom player takes a role of an unanimous space marine and fight versus the hordes of demons. Doom has popularised the FPS genre and pioneered the 3d graphics.
8. Doom II
Doom II: Hell on earth is a classical first person shooter video game that was released in 1994 and was one of the most iconic video games of the decade. If you wanna to lay carnage on demons by brutally killing them with various weapons, this is the game for you. Gameplays is very straightforward you smash the demons and walk further and the level is complete(unlike in the original Doom it is possible to wonder the wrong way though).
9. BioShock
BioShock is a first-person shooter video game released in August, 2007. It was developed and published by 2K games. BioShock is set in 1960, where player controls protagonist Jack, whose airplane crashed in the ocean, which leads him to an underwater city of Rapture. Jack tries to escape the city fighting versus mountains of enemies that are ADAM-obsessed. Only very few npcs that Jack encounters are sane. The game includes rpg elements and has an unique biopunk theme. BioShock was extremely well rated by critics, praising its morality-based storyline, unique setting and stunning environments. Video game was a massive success in sales and was one of the best rated games ever and a perfect showcase of a video game as an art form.
10. Gears of War 4
GoW4 is a third person shooter video game that was released in October, 2016. It was developed by The Coalition and published by Microsoft Studios. The game was a complete success and praised by critics for it’s gameplay and visuals, however the campaign did receive some criticism mainly due to it’s writing. All the old good fighting techniques were reintroduced and new elements, such as short distance shoulder charge or Buzzkill that fires ricocheting snowblades.
11. BioShock 2
BioShock 2 was developed by 2k Marin and published by 2K Games. This first person shooter is sequel to BioShock and was relesed in 2010. The game got praise for it’s narrative, unique and gorgeous art-style, characters, gameplay and story ending. Game is set in fictional city of Rapture, which is hidden underwater. While it is mainly single-player game it also has story driven multiplayer mode - Fall of Rapture.
12. BioShock Infinite
BioShock Infinite is a first person shooter game released in 2013. It was developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games. It does not follow previous BioShock games’ storylines, however it has similar gameplay and themes. In this game you play as protagonist Booker DeWitt and eventually get joined by AI Elizabeth. Just like in previous games the player can use psychokinectic powers and various weapons, Elizabeth also has her own powers that help to complete levels.
13. Far Cry 4
Far Cry 4 is an amazing action adventure first person shooter video game published by Ubisoft and developed by Ubisoft Montreal. It has stunning open world design and visuals. The game also stands out for it’s soundtrack and antagonist Pagan Min, which is just one of amazingly developed characters in the game. Far cry 4 was released in 2014 and in that year alone sold 7 million copies, therefore was an incredible commercial success
14. Borderlands 2
Borderlands 2 is an amazingly successful open world action role-playing first person shooter that was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. The game was viewed extremely well by the critics and commercially was a massive success as it has sold over 13 million copies and is all-time highest selling title of 2K Games. The game gained popularity mainly due to it’s randomly generated loot, which leads to wide variety of weapon customization of unheard levels. Borderlands 2 just like in the first game has 4 playable characters: Axton the Commando, Maya the Siren, Salvador the Gunzerker and Zer0 the Assasin.
15. Crysis
Crysis is a first-person shooter developed by Crytek, published by Electronic Arts and released in 2007. The game is well known for it’s outstanding graphics which were arguably the best graphics for a video game at that time. The game is about protagonists in so called nanosuits that provide enhanced physical strength, speed, defense and invisibility ability. In the game you will have to fight against North Korean soldiers, well armed mercenaries and technologically advanced aliens Ceph.
16. Unreal Tournament III
UT3 is an online multiplayer first person shooter, which was developed by Epic Games and published by Midway Games. Released in 2007, it is eight game in the Unreal series. It is mainly multiplayer game, but also has a campaign. In multiplayer there are 8 game modes that are similar to it’s predecessors such as Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, Duel, Warfare, Bertrayal and Greed. The game is famous for it’s Unreal 3 engine that is flexible yet has good physics, therefore was used in many other games too.
17. Crysis 2
Crysis 2 is a first-person shooter that was published by Electronic Arts, developed by Crytek and once again stood out for it’s graphics when it was released back in 2011. Just like in the first game in Crysis 2 you take a role of a Force Recon Marine. This time action is happening in 2023 New York City instead of jungle like in it’s predecessor. Nanosuit in crysis 2 is upgraded and has new features that were not there in the original game, some of the features that nanosuit offers can be activated simultaneously. For example Strength and Speed modes have been combined into one Power Mode.
18. Battlefield 1
Battlefield 1 is a first-person shooter that was released in October, 2016, published by Electronic Arts and developed by EA DICE. Game is inspired by historical events of World War I. Gameplay highly emphasizes teamwork. One of the most notable improvements from previous games is melee combat rework, introducing new weapons such as sabres, trench clubs and shovels. Like in previous Battlefield games Battlefield 1 has high variety of weapon custimazation, destructible environment, possibility to pilot airships, armored train and various vehicles.
19. Warframe
Warframe is third-person free to play cooperative shooter video game. It was published and developed by Digital Extremes and released in 2013. As a player in Warframe you control ancient warrior of the Tenno race. There is both pvp and pve content, pve include set of missions with a narrative or story behind them. All the missions are scattered across the planets of the solar system and their moons. Players can equip 3 weapons at a time(primary, secondary and melee) and all of those weapons can me modified by upgrading them. The game is most known for it’s rich cooperative experience where you can join a party of up to 4 players to complete the missions.
20. POSTAL 2
Postal 2, released in 2003, is a first-person shooter developed by Running with Scissors. Game is based on dark humor. You control the Postal Dude who has a badass look with goatee, sunglasses, black trench coat and an alien t-shirt. Game levels are different days of the week from Monday till Friday. The game goal is to complete various errands that his wife demands, those errands usually are quite simple, for example get milk or confess sins. The game is known for its brutality and violence. Decapitating people with a shovel or setting them on fire and then pissing on them is not out of the question in this game. You can even attach a cat on your gun and use is as a silencer.
21. Call of Duty: Black Ops III
Call of Duty: Black Ops III is a first-person shooter that was released in 2015. It was developed by Treyarch and released by Activision. It is twelfth game in Call of Duty series. The game takes place in 2065, 40 years later than it’s prequel Call of Duty: Black Ops II, in a world where a Third Cold War is happening and climate changes are quite extreme. Campaign is based around 4 players cooperative gameplay. It allows for more open world missions and less corridor shooting. In multiplayer, in addition to old 10 classes from Black Ops II, a new character system got implemented, it is called “Specialists”. It allows to choose from 9 different soldier characters, each of them has either a special weapon or ability that is unique to them.
22. Borderlands
Borderlands is genre changing first-person shooter due to it’s massive weapon customization and rpg like feel. The game was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K games. It was released in 2009 and immeadetly caught gamers attention as it sold over 2 million copies after first few months of release. Players can choose to play one of four characters, each of them has a special skill and are better with different types of weapons. The characters are Roland the Soldier, Mordecai the Hunter, Lilith the Siren, and Brick the Berserker. The game can be played alone or up to 4 players in cooperative mode.
23. Unreal Tournament 2004
UT2004 is a legendary first-person shooter video game, it is developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes, Published by Atari. Game has manu of the same features as it’s predecessors, however gameplay mechanics got improved a ton so did the graphics. In addition with UT2004 vehicles and Onslaught game type got introduced, which allowed for massive scale battles, that haven’t been seen in FPS genre. The game itself is fast paced shooter that is presented as an extreme sport of the future. Even though there is a solid campaign it is mostly a multiplayer game, that offers various modes and even had it’s own modding community.
24. Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead is a survival horror first-person shooter, released in 2008, developed by Valve South and Published by Valve Corporation. The game has won many awards and is a stand out quality wise in horror genre. In the game you play as one of four survivors, it is best played as cooperative as if there is less than 4 players then other characters are controlled by the AI. The game is played through levels and fighting the infected. The game is based on teamplay helping each other out in critical moments.
25. Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2 is a cooperative survival horror first-person shooter, which was released in 2009, developed and published by Valve Corporation. The game just like it’s predecessor is based around cooperative gameplay with some improvements to the gameplay. The game has 5 modes: Campaign, Single-Player, Versus, Survival, Scavenge and Realism which is the new mode in Left 4 Dead 2. In this game whole cast of new survivor crew is featured.
26. Max Payne
Max Payne is a classic third-person shooter, which was released in 2001, developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Rockstar Studios. In the game you play as protagonist renegade DEA agent and former NYPD officer Max Payne, whose motives are simple: get revenge on those who murdered his wife and child as well as framing him for murdering of his partner.
27. Call of Duty: Black Ops
CoD: Black Ops is a first-person shooter, which was released in November, 2010. It was published by Activision and developed by Treyarch. The game is known for it’s incredible single player campaign and well developed multiplayer experience as well as expanded cooperative gameplay. In the campaign you play as a former marine and CIA operative Alex Mason who fights versus radical Soviet conspiracy. Multiplayer pits two teams against each other in various game modes with diverse objectives such as Deathmatch. Multiplayer was a massive success and had good playerbase for years.
28. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
CoD: Black Ops is a first-person shooter, which was released in November, 2012. It was developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. This is the eleventh call of duty game and first one that was also released for Nintendo’s Wii console. The action takes place in the year 2025. Campaign has different ending possibilities depending on the conditions that player fulfills throughout the game. Campaign is not linear and is more like a sandbox where every action accounts leads to a different story. Just like in previous game installment you play as U.S Special Forces operative Alex Mason.
29. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Published by Activision and developed by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty:Advance Warfare was released in 2014 and had a great success for both it’s multiplayer and single-player game modes. This first person shooter was a definitive improvement to it’s predecessor Call of duty: Ghosts. For the first time in the series player is allowed to choose from different types of conventional weapons and exo features such as exo cloak, which allows player to become stealthed(transparent).
30. Battlefield 1942
Battlefield 1942 is one of the most iconic games in Battlefield series. It was released in 2002, developed by Digital Illusions CE and published by EA Games. The game had quite sizeable modding community, which kept the game alive for years. Battlefield 1942 is more focused on multiplayer as single-player means that you just play against AI in the same way you would play versus other players in the multiplayer. The main game mode is Conquest, it’s point capture based mode. There are 5 classes in the game: Scout, Assault, Anti-Tank, Medic, and Engineer.
31. Battlefield 4
Battlefield 4 is a first-person shooter video game that is mostly known for its incredible multiplayer. It was released in 2013, developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts. Even though single-player campaign was not that great it was still a massive commercial success, as over 7 millions copies were sold. Multiplayer has 3 different factions: The United States, Russia, and China. Game is very customizable and tactics based. It even has some strategy games elements, which gave multiplayer experience depth. Same four kits are present in Battlefield 4 as they were in Battlefield 3, it did have minor tweaks though.
32. F.E.A.R.
First Encounter Assault Recon is a first-person survival horror shooter released in 2005, published by Sierra Entertainment and developed by Monolith Productions. The player plays as a Point Man of F.E.A.R, who has supernatural powers and reflexes. His goal in the game is to uncover the secrets of a paranormal menace that has taken a form of a little girl. An outstanding game element is “reflex time”. It allows to slow down the surrounding game world, but still allowing the player to react and aim at his usual speed. Even though single-player campaign is the main mode of the game, F.E.A.R has quite a decent multiplayer too with game modes like deathmatch and capture the flag.
33. Metro 2033 Redux
Metro 2033 Redux is a first-person survival horror shooter released in 2010, published by THQ and Deep Silver, developed by Monolith Productions. The game is set in the tunnels of Moscow Metro in 2033(well obviously). It only has a single-player, which is rare for a shooter game in 2010, but the campaign is nothing short of amazing. The game is unique in multiple ways, from the enemies it presents(gargoyles, werewolves and other types of mutants). It has some interesting weapons too, for example pneumatic crossbow. The player often hasto make moral choices, which influence the outcome of the game, resulting in different cut scene at the end of the game. It had some mixed reviews from critics, but the majority weere positive.
34. STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy
This classic game is unique in a way that it is a third-person and a first-person shooter at the same time. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy was released in 2003, dveleoped by Raven Software, published by LucasArts(NA) and Activision(EU). In the campaign the player plays as a student Jedi Jaden Korr. The unique feature of this game is that player can choose either first-person or third-person perspective for each weapon. There are many different guns in the game, but the most important one is Lightsaber, there are many different techniques on how to use it and despite being a melee weapon it is really powerful, you can even block bullets with it.
35. Call of Juarez™
CoJ is a western themed first-person shooter published by Focus Home Interactive and Ubisoft, developed by Techland. It was released in 2006 and had some mixed reviews, but more positive ones, mostly praising uniqueness of the game and one ofthe main characters Ray McCall - a former gunslinger that turned into preacher. The other playable character is Billy “Candle”. Each of them have distinct playing styles, Ray being stronger, but slower and Billy being faster and sneakier. The game sells the western feel very solidly(even classic western duels are made very well!). The game also has multiplayer with modes like deathmatch, skirmish and robbery(where players need to find the hidden gold and return it to an escape zone, while the other team that play as lawmen need to catch them).
36. Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne is a third-person shooter released in 2003, developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Rockstar Games. Even though it got criticized for its short length, it got praised for its story and action. In most levels player controls Max Payne, however in few levels the playable character is Mona Sax. Gameplay for its bullet time feature, which slows the time while still allowing the player to aim in real-time speed. The game is most known for its storyline that is dark, but unique and enjoyable.
37. Wolfenstein: The New Order
Wolfenstein: The New Order is an action-adventure first-person shooter released in 2014. It was developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks. Depending on morality choices the player makes it decides the entire storyline of the game. Critics praised the game’s narrative and combat. The game changed quite a lot from earlier Wolfenstein games, and even though the series were a success even till release of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the changes were viewed as positive. Gameplay is famous for the cover mechanic, which allows to lean around, over and under cover. That comes really handy in stealth levels.The setting is mid 20th century with an alternate history where Nazis won the Second World War.
38. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Vegas 2
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is a first-person shooter video game released in 2008 by Ubisoft. It is is the seventh installment in the Rainbow Six series. Player plays as a bishop, character that is created by the player before the game starts. Teammates AI are vastly improved from previous game and can cover each other when advancing forward. In the single-player campaign action is happening in year 2010 in Las Vegas, where bishop commands his team on a new mission, where National Security Agency finds out that two coyotes, Miguel and Alvarez Cabreros, smuggling chemical weapons into Las Vegas.
39. Quake Champions
Quake champions is the continuation of legendary multiplayer first-person shooter Quake. The game is currently in beta testing and should release by the end of 2017. Quake champions is published by Bethesda softworks and developed by id Software. Quake champions already got praised by critics in its first reviews and should bring back Quake franchise back into the esports scene. Quake champions, just like other quake series games will be fast paced shooter, but with improved graphics, interface and matchmaking. It should be a perfect example of not fixing what is not broken, as gameplay in Quake Live and Quake 3 Arena were nearly perfection.
40. Metro: Last Light Redux
Metro: Last Light is a post-apocalyptic-themed first-person shooter released in 2013, developed by Ukrainian studio 4A Games. The game has stealth and survivor horror elements. The reviews from critics were mostly positive. The game got recognition for its fascinating atmosphere, world design, graphics and gameplay, however it received some criticism for AI being buggy at times. Just like in its prequel Metro 2033, player takes a role of Artyom. The action takes place in post-apocalyptic Moscow. Game offers more freedom and bigger maps than its prequel.
41. Crysis: Warhead
Crysis Warhead is a first-person shooter released in 2008. It is standalone expansion, therefore it does not require original Crysis. The game was developed by Crytek Budapest and published by Electronic Arts. In this expansion player takes on a role of Sergeant Michael “Psycho” Sykes, a friend of Crysis protagonist Nomad. Timeline is paralel to the original crysis game and action is happening on the other side of the island. Crysis: Warhead offers refined gameplay and new set of customizable weapons, vehicles and new multiplayer content.
42. Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 5(in Japan known as Biohazard 5) is the seventh major installment of the legendary franchise. It is a third-person shooter survival horror action game by Capcom, which is similar to all the previous resident evil games(except it has less horror and more action), though for the first time it focuses on cooperative gameplay. First player plays as Redfield, an ex member of the fictional Special Tactics and Rescue Service(STARS). The second player controls Alomar, newly introduced character in the series, which is controlled by AI if the game is played solo, though it is possible to play solo as Alomar after the game has been completed once. Players can trade items during the gameplay and help each other in various ways, however in some missions the main characters get separated.
43. Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is an action-adventure first-person shooter released in May, 2015. This single-player only game was developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks. Like it is common for Wolfenstein franchise, cover system is a very important part of the game, with players being able to lean into and out of cover instead of just locking into cover as in most other games that use cover system. Not much has changed since its prequel Wolfenstein: The New Order. The story is still set in the alternate history ,where Nazis won World War II. Besides some slight gameplay and graphics improvements there are obviously new missions. It was a good decision not to change what has succeeded and bring players new experience of a immersive Wolfenstein world.
44. Serious Sam: The Second Encounter
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is a first-person shooter developed by Croteam and released in 2002. In the game player takes the role of Sam “Serious” Stone and fight versus overlord Mental and his forces. It is action packed shooter, where machine-gun is Sam’s main weapon, which he uses to destroy large waves of enemies throughout the game. The Second Encounter introduced some new brutal weapons such as chainsaw or flamethrower maintaining the game’s reputation of being a brutal meat grinder.
45. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical first-person shooter released in December, 2015. It was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. This elevent entry of the series puts a huge emphasis on destructible environment and teamwork of players. In the game player controls operator from Rainbow team, whic got deactivated 3 years ago. Deactivation caused resurgence of terrorist activities, therefore the Rainbow team got reactivated and that is where the game starts in the campaign. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has a quality multiplayer too. t has various modes that are: Hostage, Bomb, Secure Area, Terrorist Hunt, situations, and Tactical Realism.
46. Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway™
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is a first-person shooter released in 2008, developed by Gearbox Software and published by Ubisoft. The game is set during World War 2 and is a third installment in the Brother in Arms series. Combat is heavily dependant on taking cover, which puts player into third-person perspective. The game has many new weapons, such as bazooka and machine-gun. The game have ppularized “action cam” seen in many games afterwards. Action cam zooms in to the enemy which is taken out by what is considered a skilled or exciting kill, for example when making a headshot or grenade kill.
47. PAYDAY 2
Payday 2 is a cooperative first-person shooter released in 2013, developed by Overkill Software and published by 505 Games. Player’s goal in this game is to perform various heists, for example bank robberies, drug trafficking, rigging an election etc. Often in heists a big emphasis is put on stealth and not getting caught. There is no set campaign in the game. Heists take place around the same time events happen in real time. There are 4 different playable characters: former Chicago mobster Dallas, bankrupt Swedish software developer Ulf “Wolf” Andersson, rogue Navy SEAL Chains, and Dallas’ younger brother Derek Ray.
48. PAYDAY: THE Heist
Payday: The Heist is a cooperative first-person shooter released in 2011, developed by Overkill Software and published by Sony Online Entertainment. In this game player has to use variety of firearms to complete objectives otherwise known as heists, that often require to steal a certain object, amount of money or kidnap a person. There are four robbers for player to choose from: Dallas, Hoxton, Chains, and Wolf.
49. STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II
Star Wars Battlefront II is an action shooter released November 17, 2017, developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts. Game is played in both first-person and third-person perspectives, depending on the weapon and player’s priority. The game has huge focus on multiplayer, that has 5 unique game modes. Game got heavily criticised for its loot box system, which gives players that pay extra a huge advantage. However gameplay and huge scale multiplayer battles got very positive impressions so far.
50. Star Wars Battlefront
Star Wars Battlefront is an action shooter that is played in both first-person and third-person. The game was developed by EA DICE and produced by Electronic Arts. Player can choose when to play in third-person and when to play in first-person perspective. Controlled characters are either Rebel Alliance soldier or an Imperial Stormtrooper. Some other characters that appear in the Star Wars movies are also controllable, including Luke skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Chewbacca and others. Even though critics reviews are mixed, it is note worthy that game got praised a lot for how detailed it is. Mitch Dyer of IGN even said that it is one of the best looking games of its generation.
51. Call of Duty World at War
Call of Duty: World at War is a first-person shooter released in 2008. The game was published by Activision and developed by Treyarch. The game has both, strong single-player and multiplayer. World at War is more mature and give players more options to differently complete objectives. Player controlled character can be in one of three stances: standing, crouching or prone. Depending on the stance, character’s speed and stealth levels differ. Cover is also commonly used to replenish health, reload a weapon and take time to think about the next move.
52. Serious Sam: The First Encounter
Serious Sam: The First Encounter is a first-person shooter developed by Croteam and released in 2001. In the game player takes the role of Sam “Serious” Stone and fight versus overlord Mental and his forces. It is action packed shooter, where machine-gun is Sam’s main weapon, which he uses to destroy large waves of enemies throughout the game. There is a wide variety of enemies that jumps into Sam’s meat grinder. Player encounters enemies everything from soldiers with grenade launchers(you really wanna dodge their grenades) to shrieking suicide bombers without heads that charge into the player.

The game is based on its comic, including characters, story and plot elements. The action is happening on the planet Nu-Earth, where Norts fighting a war against Southers. The war has caused millions of deaths. In the game player plays as Rogue, whose primary weapons are his assault rifle and pistol. Assault rifle can be upgraded throughout the game, which change the weapon quite drastically. It can become sniper rifle, anti-air rocket launcher, electric beam rifle and so on. Rogue survives through clever use of the battlefield.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands has a futuristic setting with a vide variety of open world environments such as mountains, forests, deserts and even salt flats.

Tom Clancy's The Division is an action role-playing video game released in March, 2016. It is an online-only multiplayer developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The game is set in an open world Manhattan, w is in crisis state due to a virus. As player progress he can earn experience and currency. As usual currency is spent to buy better weapons and gear, and with experience you gain levels that increase character’s powers. The game is separated into two main modes that are Campaign and The Dark Zone. The later is pvp(player versus player) competitive mode, where many high end weapons cannot be used. Player’s ranking depends on their activity in the contaminated zone(The Dark Zone), dying too often will reduce player’s rank.

Rage is a post-apocalyptic first-person shooter released in 2011, developed by id Software and published Bethesda Softworks. Player takes control of a soldier Nicholas Raine, who has been put into hibernation for a century. When he wakes up he gets hunted by opressive organization named Authority. The game had incredible graphics and gameplay for its time, but got criticized for weak story and lack of direction. In Rage usage of vehicles is very common, as player has to use them to explore the map and travel between missions. Player can augment their vehicles with different items that are gained in those events.

The action takes place noine years after previous installment of the game, where Max Payne had become a private security contractor in Brazil. New feature with this game in Max Payne series is cover system. Bullet time mode from previous Max Payne games is still here, where player slows down time around him but can still aim at a normal speed. Last Stand mechanic is another feature in this game, when player’s health bar gets depleted it allows to kill enemy that last wounded the player.

Battlefield Hardline shifted away from military setting that was common for Battlefield series and now has a focus on “war on crime” setting. Battlefield Hardline introduced many new mods into the Battlefield series: Heist, Blood Money, Hotwire, Rescue, and Crosshair.

The game is set in 1989 Miami, where two protagonists, Jacket and Biker are committing massacres against Russian Mafia. The game stands out for its violence, surreal storytelling and unique visuals that has 1980s vibe. n each level player navigates building from top-down view, the goal is usually to kill everyone in there, sometimes needing to find an item, which is usually gained by killing a boss.

Biggest new tool that was added in hotline Miami 2, which the first game did not have is a level editor, which allows to make new, original stories. Game is set in 1991 Miami, following the storyline of Hotline Miami.
64. Red Faction®: Armageddon™
Red Faction: Armageddon is a third-person shooter released in 2011, developed by Volition and published by THQ. Game is set in year 2175, when Mars is liberated as its surface became uninhabitable. Most of the game is played in an underground tunnel full of alien creatures. Just like in previous Red Faction games, destruction of landscape and various objects is big part of the game. Player also has Nano Forge device that can repair structures. There are usable vehicles even in the tunnel and mech suits in some levels. Critics praised the amount of destruction can be done in the game, but besides that did not notice anything special.

It is a modern take on AMIGA games that were popular back in the day.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 is a tactical shooter released in April, 2017 developed and published by CI Games. The player plays as a marine Captain Jonathan “Jon” North, whose goal is to destroy stockpile of Soviet bio-weapons before they are stolen by terrorists. The main character is helped by his brother Robert, who is controlled by AI. Campaign is not linear allowing player a lot of freedom, not only in the order of missions, but how those missions completed too.
68. Aliens vs. Predator
Aliens vs. Predator is a first-person shooter released in 1999. It was developed by Rebellion Developments and published by Fox Interactive. This game has 3 different campaigns, each of the mare played as a different race: Alien, Predator or Human(Colonial Marine). All of the campaigns are quite different gameplay wise. As Colonial Marine player can use flares and image intensifier to have better vision in the dark. He can also wear armor and use different weapons. The predator is the toughest and most durable character of the three and uses weapons such as wrist blades or throwing disc. Alien is the most agile character, capable of climbing walls and ceilings, it has no weapons but he is capable of using his claws, tail and jaws to attack enemies.
69. Red Orchestra 2 Heroes of Stalingrad
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is a multiplayer tactical shooter released in 2011. It was developed and published by Tripwire interactive. Game is built using the Unreal Engine 3, has decent graphics and audio. The game is set in WWII, Battle of Stalingrad that happened from July 1942 to February 1943. The game has both multiplayer and single player, but is more multiplayer focused. Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad has brutal battles with excellent attention to details.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is a first-person shooter released in November, 2016. It was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. In the campaign player takes on a role of Tier 1 Special Operations pilot Captain Nick Reyes. In this Call of Duty installment next to the classic “boot on the ground” gameplay, aerial combat is a big part of the game. In the multiplayer Infinite Warfare reworked class system and introduced Combat Rigs. There are 6 rigs in total: Warfighter, Merc, FTL, Stryker, Phantom and Synaptic. The game has hundreds of prirmary and secondary weapons available to the players in both campaign and multiplayer.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is a science fiction first-person action shooter released in 2009, developed by Starbreeze studios and published by Atari. It has both single-player and multiplayer, however the later did not gain much popularity. The game mostly got praised for its voice acting and the use of shadows and got criticized for poor multiplayer and AI. In the campaign player controls Richard B. Riddick, a dangerous space criminal who can see in the dark.

Day of Defeat: Source is a team-based online first-person shooter multiplayer released in 2005, developed and published by Valve Corporation. It is a remake of the original game of Day of Defeat. It is very similar to its predecessor, but has improved game models. The game got praised for its deep strategic gameplay and atmosphere. The game is set in WW II, in 1944. Players got to choose either United States Army or the German Wehrmacht and compete versus the opposing team in multiple different multiplayer game modes.

The goal is simple, player needs to get as many pork kills as possible. The evil swines never stop attacking until the level is done. It might get repetitive after a while, but multiplayer makes fun last longer as it allows compete with each other to achieve high score of swine kills.

Game is played either as single player or up to 4 players co-op. There is more than 70 weapons in the game, game feels fluid and fun to control as Lo Wang is very agile and quick.

Helldivers is a top-down shooter released in March, 2015. It was developed by Arrowhead and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The players must fight against three different enemy species to save the Super Earth. Players in the game have many choices: missions order, to how they complete missions, what weapons they choose for each mission. To complete a mission players must get past enemy controlled territory, by fighting them or by sneaking by. The game is quite challenging, however missions lack story and narrative.

Astebreed is an action shoot 'em up game released in 2014. It was developed by Edelweiss and published by Active Gaming Media. Player controls the main protagonist Roy Becket, who is fearless mercenary who pilots Xbreed - mech with thruster module and long sword as a weapon. Roy Becket’s goal in the game is to save Estina Nono(a female character from the game) and put an nd to Filune - the main antagonist in the game. Filunes are insect-like invaders from the outer space.

TimeShift is a first-person shooter released in 2007, developed by Saber Interactive and developed by Sierra Entertainment. The main gameplay feature in the game is that player is being able to control time and use it to beat enemies. Slowing down time allow player to dodge bullets, steal enemies weapons and to gain other advantages. Even though TimeShift has received mixed reviews it is definitely an unique game experience.
78. Quake IV
Quake 4 is a science fiction first-person shooter from the legendary quake series. It was released in 2005 developed by Saber Interactive and published by Sierra Entertainment. The game as usual for Quake series games has a strong multiplayer, where gameplay is similar to Quake 3: Arena and Quake Live with modes like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tourney, Capture The Flag, Arena Capture The Flag and DeadZone. While most of the old tricks still work, there are some new ones with Quake 4, for example sending shots through teleporters. While the player movement have not changed much from previous games, there however are additions of ramp jumping and crouch sliding. Crouch slides allow players not to lose speed by sliding around corners, while ramp jumping allow to reach higher maximum jump height than normally possible, this trick was present in Quake and Quake 2, but not Quake 3 Arena.

Hard Reset is a first-person shooter released in June, 2016, developed and published by Flying Wild Hog. The game has quick pace and similar gameplay to Quake and Unreal games. The game has only two weapons: CLN Modular Assault Rifle and EEF-21 Plasma Rifle, but both weapons have unlockable firing modes allowing for addons such as as rocket launchers and railguns. The game has steampunk setting that is well presented, however the game was criticized for its lack of multiplayer mode.

The game is squad based and only has multiplayer game modes only. There are 4 of them: the Frontlines, Attrition Warfare, Squad Defense and Rifle Deathmatch.

Tron 2.0 is a first-person shooter released in 2003 and developed by Monolith Productions. The game is based on the film Tron and the game story wise is a sequel to it. The main character in the game is Jethro “Jet” Bradley. Game setting just like in the film is inside a computer. Jet will have to battle against computer viruses, bypass firewalls read e-mail messages.

The game is set in 1960s, where US and Soviet Russia fight over bio-metals from alien planets. In the game you can command an army of heavy assault vehicles which you use for destroying enemies and their defenses and scavenge bio-metals to build your own defenses.

It had some success, however due to different engine many counter-strike players did not enjoy

Main mode of the game is its campaign, the gameplay and missions widely depends on the difficulty player sets. The game has open world and is similar to battlefield and Hotline Miami, while it does require quite a bit of puzzle-solving and thinking of different, it does get repetitive.

Not a Hero is a third-person shooter released in February, 2016, developed by Roll7 and published by Devolver Digital. The game is 2D side-scrolling and cover-based with pixel art style. Before starting each level player can choose from 9 different characters. The player can upgrade his primary weapon temporary with different upgrades found in current level as well as pick up special weapons, exploding cats for example.
100. Superhot
Superhot a first-person shooter, released in February, 2016, developed and published by Superhot Team, therefore is an independant title. The game is unique in a way that it has minimalistic world,with what could look like missing graphics or colorings at first glance, but the game is meant to be that way. In mostly white colored surroundings the enemies are red, which allows to spot them easier. The ammo is very limited in the game, therefore player often needs to make melee kills. The game is quite punishing as taking a single hit from an enemy bullet the player dies and needs to restart.
