BioShock Infinite: Bird or Cage?

BioShock series has always had some neat details that gamers can remember and provided memories that we could value and keep. Whether that were great scenarios, wonderful references or mysterious decisions, we all got something out of it. In BioShock Infinite there is one particular choice that Booker has to make. During the main storyline, unexpectedly Elizabeth prompts him with two pendants/necklaces/accessories and he has to choose between them. It isn’t a game changing dilemma, yet at the end you might be forced to remember what you’ve chosen. One necklace has a bird engraved and the other has a cage. These are symbols, choose the one you like the most. We never get the explanation what they mean, but fans and experts speculate that the bird symbolizes freedom which Elizabeth craves and the cage represents captivity yet that isn’t completely true. As you may have read our Songbird article – in “captivity” Elizabeth was taken care of, Songbird was sort of her protector and provided for her, which might mean that Bird symbolizes change and exploration while the cage is more of a traditional and “let’s not change” symbol.
