Dishonored series contain a lot of secrets, Easter eggs, and exploits. Most of them were created by developers consciously to make the game funnier and more flexible. Discovering of the world around you is the main part of the game. Try exploring everything during your playthrough to understand our joy.
But if you want to find main secrets quickly this guide can help. Here we have collected different gameplay glitches, secrets of developers, plot twists, and Easter eggs. A lot of secrets we have revealed in other guides about runes, bone charms and safes. Be sure to check them out if you want to find all secret locations and get all collectibles.
For that reason here we want to provide less obvious secrets. Say no to well-known hidden locations or regular plot choices. Let’s discover true secrets together. Not that there are mysteries of the first game and its DLCs. Also, be aware as this guide contains spoilers!
References
Easter eggs are our beloved secrets in all games. It’s cool to find some reference to another franchise without breaking the 4 wall. Creators of Dishonored offer you well-designed and sometimes well-hidden references:
- Portal series
Once you are in the Hound Pits Pub make your way in the Piero’s workshop and raise to the topmost floor. There you will find large black oval on the wall right near stairs. It looks like a portal from the eponymous series. Read a note on the wall where Piero describes his invention and expresses hope to create real portals someday. Oh, there is the second oval as well. It is located on the other side of the wall which you can reach from workshop’s balconies.
- Thief series
In the 7 mission named Flooded District, you will encounter Daud and his assassins. Moving through their headquarters and training base may be challenging, but make sure to locate Easter egg here. Go to the training room and try to overhear dialogue between assassins. Their conversation is pretty similar to the tutorial of the Thief: The Dark Project, an iconic 1998 game. For example, a phrase «I did not see you approach» is exactly the same.
- Doctor Who series
Fans of this series know a lot about Weeping Angels. Supernatural creatures are scary and powerful enough to become a serious threat to humanity. In The Brigmore Witches DLC you may find several statues of Delilah, the main antagonist. Statues are similar to Weeping Angels. They can frighten you with flick once you are getting close. As for us, it’s one of the creepiest secrets in the game!
- Deus Ex series and Fahrenheit 451
In the starting mission, you will find the safe. We have described location and code in our related guide, but there is also an Easter egg. Correct combination for a lock is 4-5-1. It refers to 1 code in Deus Ex series which is similar – 0-4-5-1. But both game franchises have reference to Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Certain attributes of a dystopian genre can be found in Dishonored as well as in Deus Ex.
- Dishonored special edition
In the prison, during 1 mission you can explore all cells for loot and some Easter eggs. There is a room with few coins and cards on the table. Look closely to reveal that this card deck is similar to pack from the special edition of the game. You cannot grab cards, but both back and face are recognizable. By the way, tarot cards from special edition are suitable for unique Game of Nancy. Instruction for this game is in the special edition as well.
Gameplay secrets
These points are referred to the game itself. Secrets can help you during playthrough or just make it more diverse. The last tip has no influence on gameplay, but it’s just interesting:
- Quiet handicraft grenades
You know, grenades are effective but loud as hell items. They can eliminate crowds of enemies and suit combat lethal playthrough. But sometimes stealth men also need grenades. To create quiet and powerful weapons you should combine several spring razors with an empty bottle. Then just throw this handicraft grenade into the crowd. You want to use a whale oil canister instead of an empty bottle for more spring razors.
- Gang Cleaver instead of all weapons
As described above mission Flooded District you will start your way without gear at all. It may be challenging, but you still can use supernatural abilities. The chest with weapons and equipment is located near the middle of the mission. But you can ignore it! In this case, explore an abandoned building in next location. There will be a Gang Cleaver, heave sword provided for you by unknown supporters. If you have taken your gear, this building will be empty.
- Different pictures of Campbell
It’s a great example of attention to details, even the smallest. During prologue, you can interact with painter Anton Sokolov who is drawing High Overseer Campbell. There is a bottle of cider on the table near Campbell. Don’t touch it and in 2 mission in a hidden room with rune, you will find this normal painting. But take a bottle and then you will see another painting – without cider at all! Location of a room with painting you can find in our guide about runes.
- Ghost on the roof
During 2 mission you also can spot a strange shadow which watches out for you. This ghost can be detected only with peripheral vision. Ghost disappears once you want to directly look at it. Fans of the game don’t know who it is as developers also don’t reveal this mystery. We can assume it’s Daud or one of his assassins, but they hadn’t known about Corvo’s powers for the moment of 2 mission. So we have another hypothesis that this ghost is the Outsider.
Plot twists
Finally, secrets about plot feature different encounters and unusual interactions with NPCs. Here you will find alternative ways for playthrough which can contain spoilers:
- Campbell as a weeper
2 mission is full of secrets, as you can see. Campbell can be neutralized in different ways. Non-lethal one will make him a heretic marked with horrible stigma. After that, his own allies will arrest Campbell. But you can encounter him once again! In 7 mission near the chest with your equipment will be several weepers. Former High Overseer with memorable stigma is there as well. He is counted as a hostile monster, so you have to kill him or hide.
- Finish during the prologue
Do you want to beat the game at the beginning? It’s possible in Dishonored! During the prologue you will face several guards which are friendly for this moment. It’s difficult to attack them without weapons, but you can simply jump on guard’s head. The game counts it as an aggressive behavior. Right after your jumps, there will be a final screen with phrase «You committed a capital offense». That’s pretty fun, isn’t that?
- Bathing Callista
This secret we have saved for a titbit. For it, you should complete 3 and 4 missions. Explore the Hound Pits Pub after that and find a bathroom. There you will see Piero spying on Callista through a keyhole. Speak with him to free the desired door. You can also look through keyhole or enter bathroom. Interact with Callista which will ask you to leave her. If you want to see more, jump into the bath, possess Callista or attack her. A girl will stand up…
But the game doesn’t have a special naked model and use one with a corset. Also, remember that any physical interaction with Callista will lead to final defeat screen with mention of «irreconcilable hostiles».

after adventures in his world. Here you can choose which girl including Yulya (sic!) to wake up. Summer sun shines as Semyon wakes up with his love…
Many fans appraise this ending as a real one. But it isn’t. Semyon remains in his ideal world of illusions. For example, he can choose Yulya as his desired girl, but seconds before «meta-Semyon» claimed that Yulya is non-real at all! Also, Semyon started his journey in winter and wakes up with a girl in summer. Sad, but true that Yulya’s ending isn’t real and isn’t final.
- Harem ending – proceed to the city.
If you want to reveal a single true final be sure to keep moving. The bus with all girls and adults from the camp will appear. Semyon falls asleep as usual, but in his apartments remembers every previous good ending! Stunned boy tries to realize what happened when all matured girls excluding Yulya - really, she exists only in Semyon’s head – appear on the doorstep.
Girls reveal that they had their own versions of Sovionok, but Semyon weakened this trap. Slavya, Ulyana, Alisa, Lena, and Miku connected their camps and returned to the real world. All characters decide to solve mysteries of time travels and alternative realities together. And yes, this ending is the only real, but even doesn’t answer all questions.
Try to reveal secrets of Everlasting Summer and create your own version of its events!
