We created this guide for newcomers and those who are not familiar with the Deus Ex universe. Here we don’t provide any spoilers or walkthrough tips which are crucial to the plot. You can beat the game with our guide, but this way is more interesting to reveal all secrets of the plot during the game, isn’t it?
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a sci-fi game about future, progressive technologies, and augmentation. You will control Adam Jensen, one of the employees of a large company. Being in the middle of the conflict between industries you should choose whom to support. Will it be humans or androids? Or you will choose another way to solve problems? Don’t hope to avoid this conflict, because only you can decide the fate of the world!
We claim that the game has a very interesting and twisted plot. Enjoy it as you go through the game with our help. Shown here guide covers all sides of the gameplay and some features of settings. The last paragraph also provides tips on different aspects. Let’s start with some things you should realize before you begin the game!
Before start
Here are certain questions which you should answer. Your walkthrough will be more all-inclusive and interesting if you follow one way. It’s quite habitually for RPG games when you act out your role during all game. Try to choose one option for every listed below question:
- What level of difficulty to choose: easy, normal or hard?
Start with normal difficulty unless you are a professional in such games. The normal level is pretty challenging even for good gamers, so hard one is very difficult. Easy mode is really easy and you should choose if you are going to relax.
- What combat tactic to choose: lethal or pacific?
Here it’s all up to you. Lethal tactic means you will kill enemies and pacific one means you will not. Of course, you can tranquilize or stun foes even with the pacific tactic. Such style is good with stealth strategy. And you always can mix these tactics for more efficiency.
- What game strategy to choose: fight or stealth?
Strategies are related to tactics and you can choose what you like more. Remember that there are no correct or wrong ways – it’s just your style. Stealth strategy allows you to use the pacific tactic. However, you can be an armed pacifist who stuns all enemies.
- What ideology to choose: good or evil?
Again, here you can choose any ideology. Good or evil behavior determines the end of the game. It depends on your choices during dialogues with NPCs. We suggest choosing one ideology and following it without jumping from good moves to evil.
- What quests to choose: main or side?
It depends on the desirable speed of the game. If you want to finish it fast then complete just main quests. But if you want to dive into the game and reveal all secrets here try to complete both main and side quests. Additional challenges will be awarded money and experience.
Gameplay
The gameplay of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is quite simple. You have to move around different locations in several towns on the Earth of future. There will be hundreds of tasks which grant you money and experience. These resources you can spend on upgrades of your body and equipment. In the tasks itself, you have to kill enemies, steal valuable items and so on.
This section of our guide contains three subcategories: combat, stealth, and hacking. The paragraph about interaction with other characters not during fights we described separately.
- Combat.
You may use only stealth strategy, but sometimes you anyway have to fight. In this case, try to follow our tips. Enemies will become stronger and bosses are the most powerful foes so learn to fight and keep this in mind.
Firstly, choose the best position before entering the combat. Explore room and find good covers where you can hide from enemies. You want to takedown one or more foes before fire others. Takedowns will grant you experience and help in future battle. Let enemies come close to you and takedown they. AI in the game isn’t very intelligent so it will be not so hard.
Secondly, it’s all about covers. Choose your desirable cover and only after that you can start the fight. Covers will protect you from the fire of enemies and let you kill them from a safe place. Wait for the chance when opponents will reload and shot them then. You can throw grenades from your position. And be dynamic! Means you have to change covers to win fights.
Thirdly, aim at the head. Headshots are a good way to receive additional experience and kill foes with instantly. Therefore, use accurate weapons such as pistols and rifles with laser aiming. Don’t forget that some high-leveled enemies wear helmets which protect them from headshots. It means you should fire several times into these targets.
- Stealth.
You may choose stealth strategy for a more interesting walkthrough or additional experience for more augmentations. For example, an achievement named Ghost will grant you 500 points in case foes didn’t notice you at all. But you need a lot of patience and excerpt for this strategy. Don’t think it’s easy to sneak during entire game! But we will help you with tips.
Always explore covers and enemies’ positions in every room. Remember about lines of sight which show how far hostiles can look. Use covers, because most humans just cannot see you behind solid objects. But beware of augmented foes in high levels which can use their upgraded vision to see through walls.
Remember timing also. Know your enemies, notice their routes and behavior. If you want to immobilize a single foe be sure his friends will not find his body in the middle of a corridor. Hide bodies of guards in ventilation so far as humans never check it. And don’t be obvious, because cameras and guards aren’t totally dumbed!
We have one more thing to remember. The game is well-designed for several ways of problem-solving for every situation. In tough moments you just should look around. Maybe you didn’t notice a secret passage or an air grate? Always look for hidden rooms and ways where you can find additional supplies which can help you to proceed.
- Hacking.
Hack everything! You will find many locked doors and cases which you can hack. Although, some doors you can unlock with codes, hack them anyway. It will bring additional experience, money, and software. Don’t hack only in tough fights or in battles with bosses, because you want to finish them as fast as possible.
Plan the best path to the green node. In the hacking minigame, you have to capture certain spherical nodes to unlock the system. However, there are a lot of other nodes with bonuses. Choose the best way to the main node and decide what other nodes you want to capture. Do it before starting the minigame so far as you will have a limited time after start.
Use software to facilitate a hacking process. Nuke Viruses will help you to capture alerting nodes so you will become less noticeable. Stop! Worms will grant you an additional time for hacking. Use both software types for the best efficiency. It can be hard to hack high-leveled systems but try it anyway. You have 2 tries always, although.
One important tip is suitable for any situation. Save! You can easily load any save in case of failure. So save every time you feel there can be a chance of failure.
Social
Interaction with non-playable characters is an essential part of the game so far as it determines the end of the game. Of course, you can avoid a lot of battles with right choices in dialogues. We suggest interacting with NPCs in the style of your game strategy. It’s really not interesting and improbably to act out as a truly bad guy who tries to save all enemies alive. Or choose aggressive answers when you are acting out as kind hero. Be truthful!
There is a particular augmentation which helps you to answer correctly. It named C.A.S.I.E. and it isn’t really helpful. You need this augmentation only for Ladies Man extra task. There are also some quests where your first response can grants you an achievement. In all other missions you can answer as you want. Dialogues with key NPCs will affect the end of the game, but won’t mostly affect achievements.
Augmentation
Almost from the start of the game, you can improve your body with augmentations. These upgrades can really help you during the game, but you can also choose not to install augmentations at all. This makes gameplay more complicated, but more interesting and challenging as well. There are 7 categories of upgrades: Arm, Back, Cranium, Eye, Leg, Skin, and Torso.
Despite almost all augmentations are useful we will describe our favorites:
- Cybernetic Arm Prosthesis. This upgrade costs only 1 point and it’s very useful, trust us. With this augmentation, you can destroy weak walls and make new ways in corridors and rooms. This ability can help you find new supplies as well. And it’s really cool and stylish when you demolish an enemy with knocking on the wall! Unlock it first.
- Glass-Shield Cloaking System. Simply put, it’s an ability which can make you completely invisible. While Cybernetic Arm Prosthesis is a must-have skill for fighters this anility is top-rated for lovers of stealth. You become invisible for 3 seconds without upgrades and up to 7 with them. Also, you can dodge lasers with it!
- Smart Vision. It’s a necessary augmentation for all tactics and strategies. It allows you to see through walls and it speaks for itself. With Smart Vision you can predict enemies and plan your movement more effectively. Stealth men understand all benefits, but fighters also will appreciate this skill.
- Icarus Landing System. With this ability, you can fall and suffer no damage. It’s a very useful augmentation when you have to move several levels down. Also, it will protect you from random falls. And it looks cool almost like Cybernetic Arm Prosthesis! Try to combine this skill with a previous one.
To augment you need special points that you can buy with money. Note that every 5000 points of regular experience will be rewarded with 1 special point.
Achievements
First run in the game is all about plot and gameplay. You shouldn’t focus on achievements, but you will earn them anyway. We have some tips for those geeks who like to grind attainments.
Regular achievements can be acquired simply by exploring everything. Open every door and crawl into every ventilation, accept every quest and be ready to spend way more time in the game. Regular achievements are not so hard to earn, but it requires time.
Secret achievements are harder to earn, but it’s possible too. You should explore even more than you can. Try to do some illogical things so far as secret achievements are really secret. Save in every strange place and reveal all available interactions and options.
Helpful tips
Here we concluded our experience and introduced some advice which didn’t suit listed above paragraphs:
- You can earn a Pacifist achievement if you didn’t kill anyone during the entire game. However, you can kill mechanical enemies and bosses or stun living creatures. To earn this achievement try to use stealth strategy.
- Spend money only for augmentation kits which grant you special points. You can buy them in LIMB Clinics. Note that all kits are replenished when you leave the certain city. Also, spend money for regular upgrades of weapons.
- Try to explore as more locations as you can. It will grant you regular achievements with most valuable of them called Traveler, Explorer, Pathfinder, and Trailblazer. It’s almost free 100 to 400 experience points!
- Takedowns are cool. They require only 1 energy cell and can stun enemies with one hit. With upgraded regeneration, you can takedown an enemy per 20 seconds. This time increases to 40 seconds without augmentations.
