As you can imagine, there have been many video games set in New York. A sure-fire way of selling a video game is to include a popular real world location and New York certainly fits the bill.
One of the best and most popular video games set in New York has to be Grand Theft Auto IV. Players had the freedom to roam around the city at will, including sites such as Times Square. Despite being known as Liberty City in the game, you will recognise many features of NYC, all be it by different names. They include the skyline of Midtown Algonquin, the Civilization Committee building, the Statue of Happiness, Star Junction, the Monoglobe, the Broker Bridge, and Pier 45 in Fishmarket South.
In terms of the five boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn is Broker, Queens is Dukes, Manhattan is Algonquin, and Bronx is Bohan. Grand Theft Auto IV also includes the state and city of New Jersey, and this is called Alderney in the game. Casinos play a role throughout the game, including the Alderney Casino, which is a large, abandoned casino located in New Jersey. Thankfully, there are plenty of good online casinos now available in New Jerseys for players, with NJ no deposit casinos such as Borgata and Golden Nugget leading the way.
For those who would like to go back in time and see New York City in a different light, Assassin’s Creed 3 is the game for you. This is one of the best video games set in New York because it gives you the opportunity to travel back to the 1770’s. You are taken back in time as the city is controlled by the British and your job is to evade your enemies by moving from rooftop to rooftop. Some of the views from the top of the buildings are fantastic.
Many movies depict New York City during a disaster and that’s where Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 steps into the video gaming world. During this game New York has come under attack by an ultranationalist Russian invasion and the city is being destroyed. With buildings on fire and bombs being dropped from the sky, you try to keep your cover as you fight through the streets in an attempt to save the city.
A somewhat similar scene to that found in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is also available in Tom Clancy’s The Division. This video game is set in New York City during the Christmas period and bank notes have been laced with a deadly virus. In terms of a realistic depiction of the city, Tom Clancy’s The Division is hard to beat and although it is in a state of decay, the highly detailed buildings make it easy for those who know the city well to spot different locations.
Some of the other leading video games to feature New York include Metal Gear Solid 2, Prototype, Mafia II, and Marvel’s Spider-Man.
